Israel Golani graduated cum laude in Musicology at Tel-Aviv University.
His interest in historical plucked instruments led him to the Renaissance lute and studying with Fred Jacobs at the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam and with Elisabeth Kenny at the Royal Academy of Music in London, where he acquired his skills as a theorbo player.
In 2002 he produced a musical drama "Nisus et Euryalus", written by Domenico Mazzocchi to Virgil's Latin text. This stimulated him to participate in projects of the Flanders Opera, Xynix Opera and the Opera Studio Nederland (as a guest coach). In 2005 he was the musical director of the dance production "Ballo Cantabile" in which modern dance and baroque music were combined. This led to further participation in dance performances with the Royal Ballet of Flanders and the modern dance company Leine & Roebana.
Faithful to his first passion, Israel continues to incorporate his lute when playing solo renaissance music as well as with ensembles The Royal Wind Music and The Modena Consort. |
